  1. Benzole (a mixture of benzene and toluene) had only just been finally completely removed from National petrol. It had been bought by BP, who were still selling through a joint operation with Shell that had been formed during the 1930s. National was sold through the 1960s based on lifestyle aspiration, a contrast to the traditional approach on performance, reliability etc.
